Discover Prejmer Fortified Church

The church fortress of Prejmer is one of the most important medieval historical monuments in Transylvania. And, we want it to end up on as many people's list of tourist attractions as possible.

Visiting the fortress

This tourist attraction is included in the UNESCO World Heritage and the only place in Romania rated with three stars in the famous Michelin tourist guide.

Visiting the Church

The church, dedicated to the Holy Cross, was built on a central Greek cross plan, modified by interventions in the 16th century. Originally the building was composed of four equal arms.

Museum

Above the gate corridor was built in 1793 the tax warehouse in which today operates a small museum, where you can find everything from agricultural tools to blacksmith tools.

Where is the Fortress?

Prejmer Fortress is located right in the commune that bears its name, Prejmer, in Brasov county, the fortress is just 15 km from the city of Brasov, the road is very good and you can park right in front of the tourist objective.

What some of our visitors said about the fortress and the place of worship.

Did you know that the fortress adopts a variety of art objects?

Besides the church, the chambers in the fortress walls and the museum you can discover true artistic objects such as the organ, bells, pews, pulpit and many others.

The altar dates back to 1804 and its central panel was painted by Friederich Miess. This painting is today on the west wall of the north aisle.

The old organ (without pedal) is on the west gallery. In 1676 a new organ for 65 fl. was purchased, then an organist was hired.

In 1916 during the First World War three bells were confiscated, replaced in 1923 by three bells cast in Apolda (Thuringia).
